Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.49% of the population. The racial makeup of the village was 94.03% White, 2.63% African American, 2.15% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. There were 183 housing units at an average density of 126.4 per square mile (48.7/km 2). The population density was 289.4 people per square mile (111.6/km 2). The lake is an impoundment of Spring Creek, a north-flowing tributary of the Iroquois River, part of the Kankakee River watershed.ĭemographics Historical populationĪs of the census of 2000, there were 419 people, 166 households, and 111 families residing in the village. īayles Lake is a freshwater reservoir located just west of Loda. Interstate 57 passes through the west side of Loda, but with no direct access.Īccording to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 1.46 square miles (3.8 km 2), of which 1.45 square miles (3.8 km 2) (or 99.32%) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.026 km 2) (or 0.68%) is water.
Route 45 passes through the center of the village, leading north 6 miles (10 km) to Buckley and south 4 miles (6 km) to Paxton. The village derives its name from "Cath-Loda", a poem by Ossian. A post office called Loda has been in operation since 1880.
